Prayer Support Group

As I reflect on our coffee mornings with Prayer Support, the passage from St Peter 5:5b-7 came to mind as a scriptural basis/focus for our meetings, held twice a month. At our first coming together in St Bernadette's, Joan outlines to those present the purpose of our meetings, that we pray for and support each other, "unload all our worries". Following this invitation, worries and concerns were articulated spontaneously within the group in an informal and relaxed way and in the atmosphere of mutual respect. Due to the size of the group, we decided to meet in the convent after Christmas. This has further enhanced the warm relaxed atmosphere that prevails when we come together. All who attend value the prayer and support experienced; this is due greatly to Joan's care for each other plus her own example of and expression of prayer.

Now !

In the aeons of time
there came a moment
when God said: "NOW!"
Light sprang from darkness,
order from chaos,
and where there was no life before
life teemed.
God saw that it was - GOOD!

So every once in a while
God does it again
God's "NOW" breaks planets open,
bursts stars apart,
shifts the continental plates,
moves mountains and valleys,
melts the ice-caps,
sends forth a Sun.

It is incredibly disturbing -
adjusting, adapting,
stroking the fires of passion
for God's endless possibilities,
But a Word keeps calling:
"LIFE!" Be in it with me,
any moment, every moment,
alert for God's "NOW!"
